Book Nook

This book is rocking my world.

Psycho-cybernetics 2000 by Maxwell Maltz

If you're all up in your head like I am give it a read you guys. It provides you with the actual tools to achieve your goals in life. It demystifies The Secret and puts the onus back on us, rather than the universe or a mysterious force, so that we are in control of our lives, our achievements and aspirations based on fundamental human nature and psychology.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm bang into all the universe malarkey too. But Maltz's tools are practical, like street lamps on a darkened highway, shedding light and giving guidance to help you get to where you want to go quickly and easily.

The book is premised on the theory that if you can expand your self image, you can expand your talents and capabilities, achieve your aspirations and goals in life. It's a heavy book. There is so much to digest I will need to read it a few times over for the messages to sink in, they are so plentiful.

I'm enjoying working through the exercises and the first one that has truly stumped me is the question "What is it that you most want to do in your life?" written like this:

"The thing I most want to do with my life is _____________________________________________".

I never thought a line could scare me as much as this one has. I challenge you to finish it for yourself.

Last night I had a huge dream. Flood waters were coming to Brisbane and the whole city was preparing to get all food and belongings on the very highest points of the city.

City Hall was in the middle of the scene, standing out with large steps leading up into it like an ancient Mayan temple. Everyone braced themselves for the flood waters to come in military style. Preparations were made, panic stricken people here and there with sand bags, tins of food and water. My parents were there with gardening gloves on?

We saw the flood coming like a very slow sedated tsunami. But it only reached the bottom of the stairs then stopped. There were massive cheers from the waiting crowd that we were saved!

To memorialise the "almost flood" the council kept the low brick wall and the rectangular pond it created right where it was with gold fish in it.

So vivid, so strange.

Mystical Meaning: The story of Noah, the Epic of Gilgamesh and other myths about floods represent a purging that prepares the way for something better. Everything in your life has been swept away so that you may start anew.

This meaning rings true to me strangely.

Journey of a different kind

It seems that assimilating into Brisbane life has proven far more difficult than I originally anticipated. There have been many moments of personal crisis, crying, feelings of loneliness, confusion and outright despair. A lot of dwelling on the past and obsession with the future, not near enough living in the NOW.

Last Thursday was a watershed moment for me when my thoughts all started to pile on top of what is already a hectic white noise in my mind, to the point where I just could not focus on any one thought. It became distressing and eventually I had to let it out some how. As I was on the verge of tears, very bravely holding back as much as possible as I was at work, I had a thought. A friend of a friend had mentioned a few weeks ago that she had been to a wonderful masseuse and that I should go. For some reason in this moment of crisis this thought came to me and I fished out the number of a lady named “Barb”. After speaking with Barb for some time she had determined what treatment I needed and had arranged my appointment for 3pm that day.

At that moment I didn’t know what to expect, but I knew I just had to do something, anything, to rid myself of this turmoil. So in desperation I delved into the unknown.

The following entries will tell of the journey I am about to embark on. This is a different journey to the ones I have had previously on a physical level. It is a journey into myself, and yes, into the unknown. It is exciting and scary at the same time.

I feel as though I am standing at a point in a road where the dirt becomes paved.
